Eric Berry's remarkable story added another chapter when he was named as the NFL's comeback player of the year. The Kansas City Chiefs safety was diagnosed in November 2014 with Hodgkin lymphoma but was determined not to miss any of the 2015 season. Because of an arduous workout regimen that included conditioning sessions during his chemotherapy treatments, Berry was back with the Chiefs for the start of the season. He played well enough to make the Pro Bowl.

Kobe Bryant on how the San Antonio Spurs elevated his game: "Their discipline. When I first came into the league, I played off a lot of emotion. I played with a lot of rage. But the year we got swept in '99, it really showed me another level of the game in terms of the coldness in which they played, and the discipline they played with. That's when I realized I've got to get my game to that level, and I've got to get there now. They helped me find that next level of discipline."
