This excerpt from Pepper Hamilton's Baylor report strikes at the heart of the overarching story: The upstart program grew too big, too fast - and it became win-at-all-costs. Corners were cut, risks were taken. Eventually, it all caught up with the school and coach Art Briles.

Does Matt Harvey have shoulder weakness or fatigue? Why do I ask? Innings 1-3 his ERA is 3.03; innings 4-6 his ERA is 9.89. Pitches 1-25 opponents hit .212 against him and pitches 51-75 they bat .424 against him. In addition, velocity of all pitches decline accordingly. Pitch selection 2nd and 3rd time around the lineup could be a factor but not enough to explain the vast differential. These facts should not be ignored by the Mets in diagnosing his struggles.
