There's the first extra-base hit of the national-title game, a one-out double by Coastal Carolina's G.K. Young in the fifth inning. Still scoreless as the Chants bat.

Very close play at the plate as Arizona's Cody Ramer is called out by home-plate ump Joe Burleson on Zach Gibbons' bouncer to the mound. The throw by Andrew Beckwith was off line, and catcher David Parrett made a nice tag. Remember that missed, third-inning opportunity for the Wildcats.

Ryan Lochte finished first in his preliminary heat of the men's 200-meter individual medley at the U.S. Olympic trials Thursday. His time of 1:58.05 makes him the top qualifier in the event semifinals tonight, followed by Michael Phelps at 1:58.95.

How confident is Isaiah Thomas that Danny Ainge can land a big free agent? "I'm very confident. I'm not going to say it's going be Kevin Durant. Who knows? I'm confident he's going to get a couple guys and build on what we got going here."

Joakim Noah's meeting with the Knicks is set for tomorrow afternoon, sources say. Noah will have the opportunity to take phone calls from other teams starting at midnight tonight, which is interesting. The Knicks remain strong favorites for Noah, however, and people around the league would be surprised if the deal between Noah and the Knicks wasn't completed. The meeting time was earlier reported by the NY Post.

Veteran swimmer Matt Grevers' Olympic medal odometer likely will stop at six. The defending 100-meter backstroke champion fell just short of making the 2016 team in that event. He says he hasn't decided whether to retire, but sounds like he's ready to sprint into the next phase. "I'm leaving backstroke in good hands," Grevers said, smiling. "There's no more room for me." He's seeded 14th in the 200-meter backstroke semis Thursday night and says he'll race for sheer enjoyment.

In addition to Johnny Manziel facing a four-game suspension in 2016 for violation of the league's substance abuse policy (reported by TMZ and confirmed by ESPN's Adam Caplan), a league source says Manziel is subject to the personal conduct policy if he signs with another team. So, he could face additional penalties upon return.

Hardly surprising Clayton Kershaw needs DL stint but don't panic, fantasy owners. Could return in 2 weeks and thrive again. If it's possible, and it really shouldn't be, buy low.
