Halftime score: Heat 59, Hornets 50. Funny how things turn out. After saying before the game how much their offensive outbursts in Games 1 and 2 were an aberration, Joe Johnson and the Miami Heat had their most prolific half in a week. Miami shot 60 percent in the half. They finished no better than 42 percent in any of the three previous games they lost after taking a 2-0 series lead. Luol Deng with 16 points and Dwyane Wade with 13 to lead Miami.

Last five picks of NFL draft

  • 52. Falcons: Deion Jones (OLB), LSU
  • 53. Redskins: Su'a Cravens (S), USC
  • 54. Vikings: Mackensie Alexander (CB), Clemson
  • 55. Bengals: Tyler Boyd (WR), Pittsburgh
  • 56. Bears: Cody Whitehair (OG), Kansas St.

If the Jets re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick or another veteran of his ilk, it means the Jets will have four quarterbacks. Can't keep 'em all. Obviously, they don't have much faith in Geno Smith or Bryce Petty. Christian Hackenberg becomes the new golden child.

Ben Goessling ESPN Staff Writer

Mike Zimmer has said the Vikings won't make a habit of adding short cornerbacks, so it will be interesting to hear what drew the Vikings to the 5-foot-10 Mackensie Alexander, their second-round pick out of Clemson. Alexander is seen as a physical, competitive corner, but at just 190 pounds, he's going to have to learn how to handle big outside receivers.

Coley Harvey ESPN Staff Writer

At No. 55, the Bengals pick WR Tyler Boyd (Pitt). With so many of the receivers off the board, this selection made perfect sense. They had to go after a wideout there and they got him. Maybe look on the defensive line in Round 3.

Su'A Cravens 53rd overall to Redskins. 1st time since 2002 the 1st USC player chosen is outside the Top 50. Of course in 2002 USC won the Orange Bowl, then won the National Title in 2003 and 2004

Entering Game 6 tonight, Dwyane Wade said his team needed to strike a balance between playing with urgency and also avoiding putting too much pressure on themselves in a potential elimination game. So far, they've managed that balancing act to relative perfection. Hassan Whiteside blocking shots, Wade and Luol Deng scoring and rookies Josh Richardson and Justise Winslow playing with confidence. Heat take largest lead on Richardson 3-pointer at 44-38 midway through second quarter.

New Falcons LB Deion Jones, from New Orleans, told me his father is a diehard Saints fan and would have to accept him being drafted by the Falcons. "He'll get over it," Jones said of his father. "He won't have a choice."

When you're a Jet, you get booed right away

Jets fans weren't happy with the selection of QB Christian Hackenberg in the second round of the NFL draft.

Heat, Hornets go for back-to-back blocks

Miami's Josh Richardson got it started and Charlotte's Cody Zeller got in on the fun with yet another monster block on consecutive plays. Hornets-Heat is live on ESPN, WatchESPN.

The Redskins select linebacker/safety Su'a Cravens from USC. Cravens is small at 6-foot-1, 225 pounds but he gives the Redskins a hybrid player.

Now within 10 picks of Patriots' first selection of the draft at No. 60, and then No. 61, and the players I'm watching closely are Utah RB Devontae Booker, Nebraska OT Alex Lewis, Rutgers WR Leonte Carroo, Maryland CB Sean Davis, Alabama CB Cyrus Jones, Clemson CB T.J. Green, Clemson CB Mackensie Alexander, Texas DT Hassan Ridgeway, and Michigan State LB Shilique Calhoun, among others.

Scoreless first between Stars and Blues. No goals but plenty of scoring chances. Stars doubled St. Louis in shots, 14-7. Goalie Kari Lehtonen sharp early for the Stars.

Notre Dame with 4 players taken in the Top 50 for the 1st time since having 6 taken in the Top 50 in 1993.

And as I write that: Yoenis Cespedes clubs a grand slam, giving the Mets 12 runs in the inning -- their biggest in franchise history. Mike Broadway has nothing for the Giants in relief of Jake Peavy but he's going to have to take one for the team.

Tania Ganguli ESPN Staff Writer

The Houston Texans are loading up on Notre Dame players. Center Nick Martin is next, filling a major need for the Texans after the departure of Ben Jones in free agency. This doesn't solve all their offensive line problems, but it's a good start. Martin also has versatility that Texans coach Bill O'Brien covets.

Raptors up 44-40 at the half. Paul George is just 1/6 from the field. As a team, the Pacers are just 14/43. Raptors outscoring Pacers 14-6 in second chance points.

Paul Kuharsky ESPN Staff Writer

Derrick Henry is the fourth RB drafted by the Titans since 2014, most in the NFL. The 49ers and Texans drafted three. That's not a good development in the NFL circa 2016.

Lowry with lob, Valanciunas with the jam

Kyle Lowry tossed to Jonas Valanciunas, who finished with a two-handed slam. Pacers-Raptors are live on ESPNews.

Bears send No. 49 to Seattle in exchange for pick No. 56 and No. 124 (fourth round). Bears now have three picks in the 2016 fourth round.
