A grand jury has indicted Will Smith's shooter, Cardell Hayes, on the charge of second-degree murder -- interrupting the preliminary hearing that is ongoing in a separate courtroom. Hayes has also been indicted on the charge of attempted murder against Smith's wife, Racquel. The state and Hayes' attorneys are arguing whether testimony will continue in the preliminary hearing.

Jake Arrieta pitches this afternoon, with a 0.79 ERA in his last 20 regular-season starts (technically 0.794). If he gives up zero ER today, the Elias Sports Bureau tells us he'll break Bob Gibson's record for lowest ERA over any 20-start span since ER became an official stat. Amazing. Gibson's record (0.791) was set in 1967-68.
