Jake Arrieta: 'I expect to beat everybody'

When Cubs ace Jake Arrieta posed for the Body Issue, he had only his glove -- and his beard. "I think the beard plays a slight factor to my presence on the mound. It's kind of part of the persona now. Everyone in Chicago embraced it, so I got to keep it. I can't ditch it now."

Sharks sign forward Mikkel Boedker to a four-year deal worth $4 million per season. Penguins speed gave the Sharks trouble at times in Stanley Cup finals and Boedker was one of best skaters available. At 26 years old, still relatively young for a unrestricted free agent.

The Stanley Cup finalist San Joe Sharks gobbled up the top remaining free agent forward on the market Friday signing Mikkel Boedker to a four-year deal worth $16 million. It is a calculated risk for San Jose GM Doug Wilson as the 26-year-old Boedker has never hit the 20-goal plateau. But the former 8th overall pick in the 2008 draft is blessed with terrific speed and the hope is he will develop into a top six forward with Sharks.

The Pelicans have reached a verbal agreement with Indiana Pacers small forward Solomon Hill, sources tell ESPN's Marc Stein. Hill, 25, established himself as quality defender last season (+0.39 DRPM) with the ability to guard positions 2-4. He's not much of a shooter at this point (32.4% from 3) but he's a tough, high-energy player with room to grow.
