Will "Amelia" be the car to beat today at Talladega? Dale Earnhardt Jr. won with the base chassis of this car he named "Amelia" a year ago at Talladega and finished second with it in October. The damage on it from Daytona forced the team to re-do much of the body and other parts at the front of the car. Earnhardt was happy with it in practice but truly won't know if it is as good as it was until the race today. He starts third.

It is an iconic front row for the Geico 500 today at Talladega Superspeedway as the No. 24 car – formerly Jeff Gordon, now Chase Elliott – is on the pole and the No. 3 car that Dale Earnhardt Sr. made famous now driven by Austin Dillon joins Elliott on the front row. Elliott also started on the pole for the Daytona 500 but a crash ruined the rookie's day and he finished 40 laps down in 37th.
