Suzuki talks hit No. 3,000, Pete Rose and retirement

As he nears 3,000 hits, Marlins outfielder Ichiro Suzuki sat down to talk about Pete Rose -- too defensive -- and Lou Piniella -- too affectionate. Oh, and another 200-hit season? Totally doable.

Jordan Spieth (-3, two strokes off the lead) has a 15-foot birdie putt on his final hole of the day at the PGA Championship. Spieth missed only two greens all day, and is currently second in the field in proximity to the hole. As he said last night, following his opening round: "I struck the ball beautifully today, the way I have been." With how he's hitting it, Spieth might well be the odds-on favorite entering the weekend.

Jeff Gordon said he had talked with Dale Earnhardt Jr. ... on FaceTime. "It seems like he is always on the treadmill," Gordon said Friday afternoon at Pocono Raceway, where he is substituting for Earnhardt (concussion-type symptoms) for the second consecutive week. "I'll be here as long as they need me," Gordon said, before adding that he was saying that "loosely."

"He said I was too old to be blonding my beard. I said he was too old to have a Mohawk."

The grouping of Jordan Spieth (-4), Bubba Watson (-1) and Sergio Garcia (+4) has just been warned that they are a full hole behind the group ahead of them at the PGA. It's interesting to note how often time warnings are blamed, after the fact, by Tour players, when discussing where their rounds turned bad. With three holes left to play for the group, it's worth keeping an eye on.

Here's a twist to Milwaukee's Jonathan Lucroy trade talks: Lucroy's contract includes a limited no-trade clause that allows him to block deals to the Indians, Tigers, Angels, Nationals, Twins, Athletics, Padres and Mariners. Cleveland is the most noteworthy team on that list. The provision in Lucroy's contract doesn't preclude a trade, but it's an additional obstacle the Indians would have to surmount.
