This quote from Derrick Rose on his initial reaction to being traded is a reminder that elite athletes are human. I think fans/observers forget that at times. Here is the quote: "The first thing I thought about was my son PJ. It's hard enough to find time to see him during the season even when I'm in Chicago. Now I'll be in New York, hours away. It's a lot of miles. I know this is part of being an NBA player, though. We'll find a way to make it work. I owe him that." Rose wrote the words in a first-person essay on The Cycle.

I think when Derrick Rose said "thank you" to the Bulls for trading him, he meant it as gratitude to the organization for sending him to the Knicks, as opposed to another organization. I don't believe it was meant as a shot at the organization.

Islanders select Kieffer Bellows. He was one of top goal scorers in NTDP history. Big time shot and big body with good hands.

Winnipeg selects Logan Stanley. A 6 foot 7 defenseman who can skate and handle the puck well for a big man. Will need time to round out.

A two-run single by Bobby Wilson gives the Rangers a 6-0 lead and spells the end of a short night for David Price, who was rocked for 12 hits in 2-1/3 innings. It's his shortest start since May 22, 2015 for Detroit against the Yankees (also 2-1/3), and the most hits he has allowed since May 8, 2015, also for the Tigers vs. Kansas City (13)

Craig Custance ESPN Senior Writer

Red Wings get Pavel Datsyuk's contract off the books in draft day trade with Coyotes. Arizona gets a defenseman it needs in Jakob Chychrun with Detroit's pick and Red Wings clear tons of cap space. Detroit now a serious player in the Steven Stamkos sweepstakes. May be the favorite if Stamkos doesn't sign with Tampa.

Corey Pronman ESPN Writer

Arizona selects Jakob Chychrun. He's a great two-way defenseman. Not flashy but he can skate move the puck and be a tough minutes defenseman

NHL

Jesse Rogers ESPN Staff Writer

Strange outing for Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks who walked four batters but only gave up one hit over 5 innings. That hit was a grand slam to Justin Bour of the Marlins. All 4 runs were unearned due to an Addison Russell error. Cubs and Marlins both scored 4 in the opening inning and that's it for the game so far. 4-4 Bot 5

Corey Pronman ESPN Writer

Minnesota selects Luke Kunin. Was fantastic for a Freshman being a top player for Badgers. He's a well rounded offensive threat.

Boston selects Charlie McAvoy. A highly skilled defender. He skates very well, very poised with the puck. Defense could use some fine tuning

NHL

Carolina selects Jake Bean. His hockey sense is fantastic. Cool under pressure and moves puck at elite level. Skating is a mild concern.

NHL

Corey Pronman ESPN Writer

New Jersey selects Mike McLeod. The best skating forward in the draft. More north south than east west but can start the offense.

Ottawa selects Logan Brown. A 6 foot 6 center with great hands and vision. Rough around edges but few can dominate like he can when he's on.

NHL

Colorado selects Tyson Jost. Played well at every tournament and level. Great skater and playmaker who can be effective at both ends.
