Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst addresses the quarterback situation: "Those two will get a ton of reps in fall camp. Certainly I don't know when, but we'll name a starting quarterback." The two-man race between Bart Houston and Alex Hornibrook could go deep into camp.

The Blue Jays need pitching more than another outfielder. But Melvin Upton gives them some OF insurance with Jose Bautista and Michael Saunders headed to free agency in November. He's also tied for 3rd among MLB left fielders with 9 Defensive Runs Saved, and he has 20 stolen bases this season. The Blue Jays have only 32 steals as a team, so Upton provides some speed they've been lacking on the roster.

Just a two-week turnaround between majors this year. Maybe a good thing for Phil Mickelson after his Open Championship runner-up finish. And the good vibes from his win here at Baltusrol in 2005 can't hurt either.

The Toronto Blue Jays are 2nd in the AL in defensive runs saved since May 24 behind only the Houston Astros. The expected acquisition of Melvin Upton Jr from the San Diego Padres will make that defense even better as Jose Bautista will probably be moved to DH, Edwin Encarnacion to 1B opening RF for Upton. Despite his low on-base percentage, he is on pace to join the 30/30 club. 30 Home Runs and 30 Stolen bases. The fact he's controlled past this year could indicate the Blue Jays are resigning themselves to losing Jose Bautista and/or Michael Saunders to free agency at season's end.
