Chip Tarkenton joined ABC Sports as a sideline reporter on the network's coverage of College Football in September 1997, and reports on select games.

In addition, Tarkenton, nephew of NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton, is the sports director and weekday sports anchor for ABC affiliate WRIC-TV in Richmond, Virginia. He also serves as morning radio sports announcer on WKHK-FM, K-Country, in Richmond.

Besides his work in Richmond, Chip also provides play-by-play for the Men's Senior Tennis Circuit. He has also worked as a college football color analyst for Fox Sports Net. Over the last 11 years, Tarkenton has anchored golf coverage of the AMF Signet Open, The Crown Royal Open and the Middle Atlantic Crown Royal Open.

Chip is highly regarded in the NASCAR Winston Cup community. He hosts and produces half-hour and hour specials, as well as breaking news on numerous racing-related stories.

Tarkenton started in the communications business at age 15, when he worked at family-owned radio stations in Georgia. He went on to be a sportswriter for Athens newspapers for almost two years. Prior to joining WRIC-TV, he began his television career as a weekend sports anchor at WDEF-TV, Chattanooga, Tennessee. From there he moved to sports director at WBMG, Birmingham, Alabama; and WLOS, Asheville, North Carolina.

Tarkenton sits on the boards of the Midlothian YMCA and Prevent Blindness. In his spare time he enjoys running and playing golf. He is a deacon at Bon Air Baptist Church and a member of the church choir.

A native of Athens, Georgia, he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia, where he received a B.A. in speech communication.

Chip is married to the former Laura Dee Powell. The couple has two children, Dallas and Davis.
