Minor missed two practices with sprained ankle

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State starting running back Travis Minor who missed two days' practice after spraining his left ankle in last Saturday's 35-6 win over Wake Forest, was back on the practice field Wednesday.

Minor practiced sparingly with the first-team offense during Wednesday's two-hour practice, and was expected to get more of a workout Thursday, though head coach Bobby Bowden said it was still too early to tell if Minor would be able to start this Saturday.

That's when the third-ranked Seminoles play host to the No. 4 Florida Gators in Doak Campbell Stadium.

Backup tailbacks Jeff Chaney and Davy Ford both will miss the remainder of the season because of injuries sustained in the Wake Forest game. An MRI on Monday revealed that Chaney tore both the ACL and MCL in his knee, while Ford has a broken collarbone.

Backup tailback Greg Jones, who also sprained his right ankle in the Wake forest game, returned to practice, too. He did limited work as the second-team tailback.

"It would be very tentative today," Bowden said of Minor's and Jones' return to practice. "At least they got some running in and some ball-handling.

"We got tomorrow. At least, that is encouraging."

Starting fullback William McCray and Nick Maddox both kept on practicing at tailback, just in case.

Saturday would be the last home game for Minor, a senior from Baton Rouge, La. He leads FSU in rushing with 154 carries for 876 yards and five touchdowns.
