NEW YORK -- Purdue tight end Tim Stratton was selected
the inaugural John Mackey Award winner Monday.
The award, which is named for the first tight end inducted into
the NFL Hall of Fame, is presented to the top tight end in the
nation.
Stratton, a junior, had 56 receptions, 579 yards and two
touchdowns this season and was a first-team All-Big Ten selection.
He ranks No. 8 on the career receiving list at Purdue with 143
receptions and is ninth on the touchdown reception list with 13.
The other finalists were North Carolina's Alge Crumpler and
Arizona State's Todd Heap to win the award.
Purdue will face Washington in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1.
