Taylor will miss spring practice

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech linebacker Ben Taylor, a third-team All-American this season, will have surgery to repair a ligament in his right ankle Friday and his status for next season is uncertain, the school said.

Taylor started all 12 games this season, leading the Hokies in tackles with 103. The injury is an old problem that got reaggravated on Nov. 4 in Virginia Tech's 41-21 loss at Miami, team trainer Mike Goforth said in a news release.

Taylor will miss four to six months, including spring practice, Goforth said.

Taylor joins fellow linebacker Jake Houseright, who is recovering from surgery to repair the ACL is his left knee, and defensive tackle David Pugh, on the sidelines.

Housright, injured during Virginia Tech's 41-20 Gator Bowl victory against Clemson, also is questionable for next season after having the surgery last Friday. Pugh will have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Friday and should be ready for spring ball.
