| | | | Friday, December 13, 2002 Breakdown: Miami-Nebraska ABC Sports Online
For the fourth time, Miami and Nebraska will meet with the national championship on the line. Miami has a 2-1 edge in such games. The first meeting was in the 1984 Orange Bowl when the 'Canes knocked off the Huskers 31-30. Ken Calhoun clinched the victory when he batted Turner Gill's pass to Jeff Smith on a two-point conversion. Eight years later, Miami shut out Nebraska 22-0 in the Orange Bowl to claim a share of the national title. In the 1995 Orange Bowl, Cory Schlesinger's two fourth-quarter TDs helped Tom Osborne win the first of his three national titles.
This year's matchup features the two teams who dominated the polls for most of the season. Eric Crouch will try to become the first Heisman winner since Danny Wuerffel in 1996 to lead his team to the national title. Chris Weinke couldn't do it last year.
Here's a statistical breakdown of the teams as they enter the Rose Bowl Presented by AT&T.
