On Saturday, Tim Stratton and Purdue defeated Wisconsin 30-24 in overtime when Craig Terrill blocked Vitaly Pisetsky's 58-yard field goal and Ashante Woodyard returned it for the game-winning touchdown. The junior tight end made three catches in the victory. The 16th-ranked Boilermakers host No. 13 Ohio State this weekend in an important game in the Big Ten race (ABC, 3:30 p.m. ET). Both teams have just one loss in the conference (along with Michigan).
What a way to win a game -- Craig Terrill's block of the field goal and Ashante Woodyard's "scoop and score."
| | | The Purdue bench runs onto the field after Ashante Woodyard returned a blocked FG attempt in overtime to beat Wisconsin 30-24. | There was a little confusion between Matt Light and myself because we weren't sure if the game was over or not. We thought the referee said there would be two overtimes, so when our bench was going nuts after the touchdown, we weren't sure if we had to go out there and play offense ourselves. Oh well, it was definitely a thriller for the fans. My apologies to anyone with high blood pressure, I'm sure this game didn't help you out at all.
Game notes: Offensively, we didn't do exactly what we wanted to. Wisconsin's defense played extremely well and managed to keep us in check for most of the game. They didn't blitz a lot, but
their front four put enough pressure on Drew Brees to make it tough for him to get rid of the ball. The O-line once again proved that they are one of the best in all of college football by not letting Drew get sacked.
Wide receiver Seth Morales came up big with a 78-yard touchdown grab, and Vinny Sutherland and John Standeford played well as usual. As for myself, I caught a couple of balls over the middle, but mostly blocked. The running game did well considering the harsh environment of Camp Randall.
Defensively, our guys played well all game and came up with big plays when we needed them to. I can't believe how fast Michael Bennett is. Are you kidding me? That kid has got some wheels on him. Anyway, I felt our front four did an excellent job and the linebackers filled the holes well. Overall, when we needed the defense to come up big, they did. Akin Ayodele's sack in overtime proved to be huge and that set up the blocked field goal by Terrill.
Special teams did a great job all day. The punt team pinned them inside their 10-yard line four times, which was huge. We helped our defense out big-time with that. We're looking forward to another big game by the special teams this week against Ohio State.
This week is a huge game against a very talented Buckeye team. I haven't seen a lot of film on them yet, but I can tell that they have a lot of speed on defense. This game will be at home, which we hope our fans will help out with the crowd noise. It should be another thriller of a game and I hope you all will watch it.
Take care and have a great week.
P.S. Happy 16th Birthday Elisa.
