Raiders have backup plan at kicker
ESPN.com report

Oakland Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski tested his ailing foot Saturday at the team's practice facility, but the results from the few field goals he kicked were not encouraging, ESPN.com's John Clayton reports.

The Raiders are uncertain if Janikowski will be able to kick Monday night against the Denver Broncos in Oakland. The team expects to make a decision on Janikowski as late as sometime Monday.

"He's anxious to get out of there," Raiders coach Jon Gruden told The Associated Press. "He needs some fresh air."

The Raiders brought in former NFL kickers Chris Boniol and Brett Conway for tryouts this week, and one of them will likely be signed to take Janikowski's place if he's unable to kick. Boniol, who has played for three teams over a six-year NFL career, was released by the Chicago Bears after last season when he was 11-for-18 on field goals.

Punter Shane Lechler handled the kicking duties in the Raiders' 49-31 victory over the Chiefs, but Gruden said the Raiders would likely go outside the organization this week if necessary.

Janikowski, the 17th overall pick in the draft, fell ill before last Sunday's game against Kansas City with cellulitis, an infection in his foot. He undergwent intensive antibiotic treatment in the hospital Thursday.

In other Raiders injury news, running back Tyrone Wheatley did not practice Saturday, and he's still listed as questionable for Monday's game. Fullback Jon Ritchie tried to practice, but he did not finish due to calf and groin injuries.

Lance Johnstone, who has groin injury, has been deactivated.
