Notes from the 1986 MNF season:
Monday Night Football entered its 17th season on ABC, becoming the longest-running program in the history of the network.
For the first time in the history of the program, MNF went to a two-man booth. Only Frank Gifford remained from the 1985 lineup, and he was joined by Al Michaels.
Owners approved the limited use of instant replay as an officiating aid.
The Dallas Cowboys played in the MNF season opener for a fourth consecutive year, becoming the first team with that distinction.
