Notes from the 1987 MNF season:
Dan Dierdorf joined Gifford and Michaels in the booth. Hank Williams Jr.'s "All My Rowdy Friends" became the MNF theme song and a new era in the program was born. The trio of Al, Frank and Dan would work together for the next 11 seasons.
The season was shortened to 15 games due to the players' strike, announced by the NFLPA on Sept. 22 after the Week 2 Monday Night affair between the Jets and the Patriots. Week 3 games were canceled, and the games for Weeks 4, 5 and 6 were played by replacement players. Striking players returned Oct. 25-26. On that first weekend back, two games were played on Monday Night -- Rams vs. Browns and Broncos vs. Vikings -- the first time in the program's history that two MNF games were played on the same night.
Raiders RB Bo Jackson, playing in only his fifth NFL game, had one of the most dominating individual performances in the program's history, setting a Monday Night record with 221 yards rushing against the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 30. His 91-yard TD run is the second-longest in MNF history.
