Notes from the 1990 MNF season:
Commissioner Paul Tagliabue announced the 16-game season would be played over 17 weeks in 1990 and '91, and over 18 weeks in 1992 and '93.
The playoff format was expanded from eight to 12 teams, as two more wild card teams were added to each conference.
The Dec. 3 matchup between the 49ers and the Giants earned a 26.9 rating, 46 percent share, becoming the second-highest rated Monday Night game ever. It was also the lowest-scoring game in the program's history (7-3) -- a distinction still held today.
