BCS No. 15 Colorado 62, BCS No. 1 Nebraska 36
| | | Freshman Kevin Jones is the Hokies' top threat on the ground. | A 32-point deficit -- and Chris Brown's school-record scoring spree -- proved too much even for powerful Nebraska to overcome, and the Cornhuskers won't be playing for the national championship this January. Colorado's explosive offense raced to a 35-3 lead early in the second quarter, and the Buffaloes withstood a mid-game rally to upset the Cornhuskers 62-36 in Boulder. Brown ran for 198 yards and a school-record six touchdowns -- three of them in the fourth quarter -- as Colorado won the Big 12 North to advance to the league's championship game on Dec. 1.

Miami avoided the upset bug that knocked Nebraska and Oklahoma out of national championship contention, and destroyed Washington 65-7 in the Orange Bowl. Ken Dorsey threw three touchdown passes, and Clinton Portis scored three times as the Hurricanes avenged their only loss from last season. The Hurricanes, behind three turnovers and a quick-striking offense, scored 30 second-quarter points and led 37-0 at halftime. Miami cruised from there, sitting most of its starters for the entire fourth quarter and making sure they remained healthy for the season finale next Saturday at Virginia Tech.
