Thursday, April 19, 2001 Triple Crown fever has made me a busy man By Chris Antley Special to ABC Sports Online
My life has never been busier since I won at the Preakness. And I've enjoyed every moment of it.

the 124th Preakness at Pimlico Race Track in Baltimore, Maryland on May 15, 1999. |
Since Charismatic's Preakness win, my life has been dedicated to two things: racing and meeting press requests. Every major network has asked me to do an interview. Last Wednesday alone, I did at least 15 interviews. Thursday morning, I was on the Business Channel and ESPN's Up Close, and then I completed a series of interview requests with various newspapers.
Add this to my riding schedule and putting out my newsletter, and it's been more than busy. My nights are hectic as well, I never get any sleep!
On Wednesday and Thursday I talked to some press via satellite and didn't get home until 1 a.m. Then I stayed up to work on the Ant Man Report, which is a stock advice newsletter that is distributed via e-mail. Then I work with the horses at 5:30 a.m. I usually take a nap at about 11 a.m. for an hour and a half before the races.
Looking forward to Belmont week between June 1-6, I'm scheduled to be a guest on the David Letterman show and I will ring the bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street. Now, ringing that bell is a dream come true for me.
This has all come on, of course, because of the possibility of Charismatic winning the Triple Crown. And I can't begin to tell you how glad I am to be in this position.
I think winning it all at the Belmont is very possible. Yes, Silverbulletday is running, but she is just another horse in the race. I mean, there is going to be no hemming and hawing and oddsmaking on my part. I'm confident in Charismatic. D. Wayne Lukas pointed Charismatic towards the Belmont Stakes even prior to the Kentucky Derby.
I'm not going to visualize this race until I get to sit down with Lukas face-to-face, probably next Tuesday. The Belmont is a different kind of race than the Preakness and Derby. There is more of an endurance factor, because the race is 1 ½ miles long. It's going to eliminate horses at the end that can't go the distance. The race is going to be a long gallop.
Now that we have the first two jewels of the Triple Crown, I believe things are going to happen in a correct way on June 5. Lukas and I have talked a couple of times since the Preakness. He told me the horse is doing great, and we both expect an exciting day at the Belmont.
