Thursday, June 7, 2001 Game 7 histories: L.A. and Colorado ABC Sports Online
When the Colorado Avalanche took a 3-1 lead on the Los Angeles Kings, not many people expected the Kings to hang in and extend this series to seven games. But, these are the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and stranger things have happened. Wednesday night at the Pepsi Center in Denver (ESPN2, 10 p.m. ET), one of these two teams will earn the right to face the St. Louis Blues in the Western Conference Finals.
This is the fourth consecutive playoff season that Colorado has been extended to a Game 7. The Avalanche are 0-3 in those tilts -- losing to Dallas in the past two Conference Finals -- and the other defeat came in the 1998 Conference Quarterfinals against Edmonton.
Los Angeles has not played in a Game 7 since the 1993 Campbell Conference Finals, when Wayne Gretzky led the Kings past the Toronto Maple Leafs and into the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in franchise history.
Here is a brief look at the Game 7 histories for both the L.A. Kings and the Colorado Avalanche.
