Q&A with Sarah Fisher
By Sarah Fisher
Special to ABC Sports Online

The Brickyard officially opens for practice in less than 10 days, and Sarah Fisher is getting ready for qualifying for the 500. Catch the action as she tries to win the pole for the 87th race on May 10 (ABC, 1 p.m. ET).

In the meantime, Sarah took some time to answer your questions. Feel free to email Sarah your questions, as she gets ready for The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.

Just read your comment about the support from your parents. I raced with your mom when we were younger at Mid-Ohio. Knowing how she was then, I can only imagine the support factor she and your dad are now. Did racing karts when you were younger start the racing blood in you, or did it come genetically? Also, how do the IRL cars drive compared to all your other experiences in racing? Will be at Michigan and will try and look you and your family up.
Robin Cooke (Johnson), Medina, Ohio

Definitely coming from a racing family had instilled the drive within me to race. Everyone in the family is somewhat connected to the racing world. So it made the transition easy when I was little.

The IRL cars are felt through the wheel rather than through your body, which is the opposite from the front-engine cars I have driven. The increments to achieving a perfect racecar are also much smaller.

Are horsepower differences more of a factor on a superspeedway where drivers can run flat-out, or on a "handling track" where drivers must brake on entering a corner then accelerate out of the turn?
Dennis Leeke, Salt Lake City, Utah

Definitely on a flat-out superspeedway. The draft only helps so much.

Is it difficult for you to drive 55 or 60 on the highway when you're used to going 219 mph?
Bill Zahren, West Des Moines, Iowa

Only just after a race. Your brain speeds up to going that fast and directly afterwards, it's difficult to slow your brain down. But, on the average day to day driving, we all have to obey the speed limits, no matter who we are!

How much personal choice do you have in the selection of your sponsors? The sponsors being accepted all seem to be wholesome and of a positive nature. This is great. Would being selective ever create a loss in revenue?
Jbyrum, Anderson, Ind.

As a team/driver, the individual makes the "pitch" to a sponsor, so we choose which ones would fit the images we portray beforehand. However, we have been lucky that the ones who have developed naturally have the same values that I do.

There is talk of the IRL racing on road courses next year, including Mid-Ohio. How do you feel about road racing and the possibility of racing near Columbus?
Frank Vessell, Dublin, Ohio

Every racecar driver should have the ability to turn both ways. Racing in Columbus would definitely be a great venue for myself, being from Commercial Point! But, Kentucky Motor Speedway is almost as close to my home town, so we would have all three to go to!

What gas is used to inflate racecar tires, and how much tire pressure is used to inflate these tires?
Dave Rykhus, Laporte, Ind.

We use nitrogen for inflation/deflation purposes and they are usually anywhere from 30-45 psi.

I am doing a report on Women in IRL racing. I was wondering if you would say that there was one thing that makes you so popular?
Anna Kamminga, Midland, Mich.

Being down to earth. I think that every human being is given the chance to be equal to another and I practice that in my everyday life.

Who in your opinion is the toughest driver you face in the IRL in terms of aggressiveness?
Tom Forno, San Jose, Calif.

Nowadays, they are all tough! Everyone is trying to win at any given moment.

Is there anything the fans can do to help you get a sponsor?
Marianne Elliston, Paso Robles, Calif.
