January 1, 2000- Heisman Trophy winner, Ron Dayne, rushes for a game high 200 becoming the first college player ever to rush for more than 7000 yards leading the Wisconsin Badgers to a 17-9 Rose Bowl victory over the Stanford Cardinal.
January 4, 2000- Bobby Bowden's Florida State Seminoles became the first college football team ever to go wire to wire by beating the VA Tech Hokies 46-29 in the Nokia Sugar Bowl to capture the National Championship.
January 15-16, 2000- Russia's Irina Slutskaya defeats American Michelle Kwan in the ISU Grand Prix Final in Lyon, France.
January 12, 2000- American Figure Skater 15-year old Sasha Cohen wows figure skating community by winning the ladies' short program enroute to a silver medal at the Nationals.
April 1-2, 2000- Defending World Champion, Alexei Yagudin, retains his title by defeating fellow countrymen Evgeny Plushenko, who finished fourth, at the World Championships in Nice, France. American Michelle Kwan comes from behind in the long program with one of her best career performances to defeat Maria Butyrskaya at the Worlds.
May 6, 2000- Phenom three-year old, Fusaichi Pegasus wins the 126th Kentucky Derby by a length and a half in one of the fastest Derby times ever setting off anxiety about a Triple Crown Winner.
May 28, 2000- Juan Montoya returns to Indy Racing to capture the 84th running of the Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
June 10, 2000- New Jersey Devils defeat the Dallas Stars in game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals on a game winning goal by Jason Arnott in the second overtime giving the Devils their second Stanley Cup in 6 years.
June 17, 2000- Boxing returns to ABC's Wide World of Sports when Jose Louise Castillo upsets Stevie Johnston in the lightweight championship bout in Belgardens, CA.
July 22, 2000- Lance Armstrong repeats as Tour de France Champion.
July 23, 2000- In Fife, Scotland, Tiger Woods becomes the youngest player in golf history (24 years 6 months and 23 days) to win all four major championships by capturing the British Open. He also became the fifth player ever (Jean Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus) to win the career Grand Slam.
August 26, 2000- Maracaibo, Venezuela defeats Bellaire, Texas 3-2 to capture the Little League World Series led by pitcher Ruben Marvarez who pitched a four-hitter.
August 28, 2000- Spanish sensation Sergio Garcia upsets Tiger Woods in the Battle at Bighorn in Palm Springs, CA.

2001
January 3, 2001- The Oklahoma Sooners shock the college football world by defeating heavily favored Florida State in the National Championship FedEx Orange Bowl Game completing an undefeated Cinderella season.
January 20, 2001- American Figure Skater Michelle Kwan wins her fifth national Championship with two strong performances at the State Farm U.S. Figure Chamionships in Boston.
