After Ashley Fiolek burst onto the scene and took the 2008 and 2009 AMA/WMX crowns, it looked like Patterson's long reign at the top was over. Instead, she worked harder, found a better bike and beat Fiolek for the 2010 motocross title -- her record 6th. But she's been beset by mistakes at XG. In 2010, she crashed in practice and separated ribs. She still raced, but crashed again trying to catch Fiolek and suffered a broken collarbone and separated shoulder. In 2009, she led XG until the last lap when Fiolek made a dramatic pass. In 2008, she crashed while leading. Patterson is training on Jeremy Stenberg's private Speed & Style track in hopes of finally gaining that elusive gold.
