Derek Costella went from "Derek who?" to AMA Supermoto championship contender in one weekend when he took a surprise win at round three in Last Vegas, May 31 over Jeff Ward, Mark Burkhart and the AMA heavies. Derek is a former amateur motocross national champion and a four-time Mini Moto Supercross champion who got into Supermoto in 2007 when he borrowed a friend's bike and went to the races. Two years later, he's still borrowing bikes (he's currently riding Carey Hart's 2008 race bike) but now he's winning races.
