South African Samuel "Sampie" Erasmus travels a long way to compete at X Games. The South African Motorsports Council will not allow paraplegic riders to ride on motocross tracks, so he sticks to a lone private track to practice, and comes all the way to the U.S. to race. But what a racer he is. Erasmus was on the verge of turning pro in 2004 before he crashed and became paralyzed from the chest down. He didn't get back on a bike for four years until he heard about Extremity Games and XG Super X Adaptive. Last year he took sixth in XG Adaptive, with Ricky James just edging him as the top paraplegic rider. In May of 2010, he dominated the Limb-Difference (paraplegic) class at Extremity Games. Expect another battle with James for top paraplegic honors at XG this year.
