A relative late-comer to rally, having spent his teens competing in motocross before a knee injury ended that career. Raced in the Finnish Rally championship through his 20s--earning 5 titles-- and gained a WRC ride at the end of 1999. He announced his retirement from full-time competition at the end of 2007. Has since run select European Rallycross Championship comps, winning his first championship round -- in Sweden in July 2008. In 2011, Gronholm finished second overall in both SuperRally and RallyCross on the Global Rallycross Championships series. Competed for the first time at XG in 2011, earning two medals (silver, Racing; bronze, RallyCross).
