There are so many young rippers out there these days that it's getting hard to keep up! Good thing we have filmers from all over the US seeking out the latest and greatest riders out there. Brock Gomez recently caught up with Ahmad Khamis, ever hear of him? Me neither until now, so check him out, he's good.
"I met Ahmad Khamis a few years ago at the concrete park in Allen, TX. He was just a little guy that had just started riding. Fast-forward a few years and he's still a skinny little dude but now he blasts concrete bowls like a seasoned veteran. He recently moved from Plano, TX to the Houston area. Luckily there is some concrete nearby for the little guy to roast. Here's a quick edit featuring footage from both the Allen and Woodlands concrete parks." -Brock Gomez
I briefly mentioned this during Interbike, way, way back in the dark days of September, but here's a more in-depth look at a new frame company out of Florida. Native BMX is the brainchild of Mesh local James P. Covington, and although I don't know the status of their production, I am fully into their samples.
Traditionally, the day after Thanksgiving is known as 'Black Friday' around these parts. It is, for lack of a better description, the official start to the X-mas Shopping Season, and lots of stores up open super early in anticipation for onslaughts of consumerism. You won't be seeing myself or Cody getting up at 5 am to line up outside of Target, but we did manage to line up a pretty cool Black Friday Gear Guide, which features some nifty soft goods from the likes of Animal Bikes, L-R-G and more. So, if you've gotta start your holiday shopping this weekend but don't have a clue of what to buy, check out our gear guide for some helpful tips.
Here goes another entry into the "riders with a 'Lil' tag colection." This one features Volume's Daniel 'Lil D' Martinez, and Daniel doesn't mess around one bit. Check the edit above. Short but very sweet.
Opening spread from a Day Smith Ride BMX interview.
I know this went the usual route through the BMX blogosphere yesterday, but I didn't want to overlook it. Photographer/designer/media theorist/extreme Twitterer Jared Souney has updated his studio Web site, and it's pretty amazing. Based around samples of his work, including photography from his years contributing to a multitude of BMX magazines, along with design work that reaches as far as vegan baking companies, it's well worth your time. So if you're bored at lunch, or wanna escape familial craziness come turkey day, head on over to Souney Media and enjoy the fruits of Jared's work.
This coming Sunday, November 29, 2009, Arnette presents the 2009 Fall Classic at the Etnies Skatepark in Lake Forest, CA. The event runs from 10am to 4pm, and will feature Arnette athletes Corey Martinez and Rob Darden. (Looks like T-nez has a new sunglasses sponsor.) Hit on that flyer to your right for more event details, and don't forget your helmet.
Here's an exclusive DuFFs edit of Mark Mulville riding the Mesh Skatepark and some trails in PA. Sad to say, but this may some of the last clips we get to see of Mesh Skatepark. It never gets old watching Mulville flow the park and especially some trails and this edit has some solid clips of him doing both.
Dean Dickinson eat your heart out! Justin Kosman sent this rad shot over of Gary Young, shralping an empty pool the locals un-dug in Riverside, California. This fits perfectly following the Show & Tell feature I just posted last night with Dean Dickinson. Click the image to blow it up and find out more about this pool below. Then, if you want to see more abandoned swimming pools, be sure to check out the post with Dean Dickinson below.
"We heard that this pool had been dug out so we headed out to Riverside to see it for ourselves. Sure enough, the local kids had shoveled out the entire pool and lucky for them they didn't find a jersey barrier in the deep end. The death box had been broken out and Gary Young managed to jam his front wheel in the wheel sized divot. Right after I shot this photo a kid wandered out of the trees and asked if I had ever shot Ultimate Fighting, random." -Justin Kosman
Dean on the other side of the lens and enjoying the view from on top of Mt. Hood in Oregon.
This past summer, I was fortunate to spend a week up in Portland, Oregon at Dean Dickinson's house. I must say it was the absolute highlight of my two month long road trip and Dean's quite a crafty and unique guy. Aside from his non-stop antics and loose style, I found that Dean is just as obsessive about photography, as he is with videography and riding empty swimming pools. His bedroom walls are littered with photographs, mostly of empty swimming pools but of his travels, friends and everything that crosses his path. Best of all, he captures it mostly with traditional film methods and unique cameras. Whether it's with a Holga, instant Polaroid or just cross-processing the film, Dean's always looking for an alternative edge to express his vision. All these assets combined and that's what makes Dean the perfect candidate for a Show & Tell. You won't believe some of these shots Dean found in his collection, check it out.
This is Brian. He lives in Jersey City, rides BMX bikes often and somehow ended up in the X Games a few times. Facebook him if needed.
