A number of years ago, at a York Jam, I distinctly remember Terry Adams balancing a no-handed hitchhiker by holding the rear wheel in his mouth. Clearly, it was obvious that Terry wasn't just another flatland rider; he was doing his own thing. And through the years, we've watched Terry evolve into one of the world's best while consistently marching to the beat of a different drum. But there's a lot more to Terry than just a roomful of trophies, a dialed flatland repertoire and original moves.

I guess it was this past winter when the topic of Terry came up between myself and Athens, Ga. flatland rider Jody Temple. Jody was quick to tell me that Terry had endured some pretty rough times while at home in Hammond, La. during Hurricane Katrina in August of 2005. I was under the impression that Terry simply sat the storm out and got straight back to riding once the ground dried up, but that wasn't the case. Terry was nice enough to talk about his experiences, and also offer some insight into the current state of affairs in his home state of Louisiana, so let's get into it. And be sure to check out his photo gallery and an excerpt from his solo DVD "Dreams," which we are using courtesy of Terry.
