Josh SuhreCody caught snoozing on the job while shooting some photos for Operativ in Cincinnati, Ohio. "Hey what can I say, sometimes tricks take a lot longer than expected&"Wow, it's so hard to believe that 2010 is coming to a close. It's been another year of non-stop travel with thousands of photos taken, gallons of coffee drunk, many sleepless nights, endless amounts of good laughs and best of all, some insane BMX riding. All in all, I wouldn't of have it any other way. I just want to say thanks to everyone who gave me a place to stay this past year, anyone who may have carried my 85 lb. camera bag (sorry if I broke your back) and to anyone who actually took the time to answer my e-mails (in a timely fashion). In celebration, I dug up my top five photos that I took in 2010 and explained why they were my favorites after the jump. Cheers!
Cody YorkJeremiah Smith, Uprail to superman seatgrab at X16.Jeremiah Smith (Uprail to superman seatgrab at XG16) Oh man, this is by far the raddest shot I captured at X16 this year. If you couldn't tell, it's of Failure's Jeremiah Smith. I must admit, Walter Pieringer got a better angle of it that ran in Ride UK but I'm still stoked that I caught it too. The best part about this photo is that not only is the trick nuts, but Jeremiah wasn't even one of the official riders to compete in street! This shot was taken during practice and Jeremiah was just messing around. He was invited to compete in park, where he was as equally impressive and threw down some maneuvers like 360 superman seatgrabs, superman seatgrab airs and 360 double whips. Jeremiah never ceases to amaze me and that's why this shot made my top five photos for 2010.
Cody YorkKevin Porter, bunnyhop fastplant to invert.Kevin Porter (Bunnyhop fastplant to invert) It's not too often that I get to shoot with KP but when I do, it's always a treat! He never fails to deliver unique tricks and always has a fresh perspective on everything he rides. Thus always making for a fun and cool photo op. This shot was a hit and run mission in downtown Chicago. It was moments before a rainstorm and I had no choice but to shoot it rogue style with an on-camera flash setup, so my equipment wouldn't get ruined. In the end, I'm glad I did though, cause I think it complimented the old school style of Kevin's fastplant to table of this ledge. That and because K.P. is sponsor by a coffee company called Intelligentsia and is obsessed with coffee as much as I am, is why this photo made my top fives of this year.
Cody YorkChad Ring, overgrind in Cincinnati, Ohio.Chad Ring (Overgrind in Cincinnati, Ohio) For the past several months, I've been busy shooting with the Operativ team which includes Chad Ring, Bobby Simmons, David Grant and Josh Suhre, creating images for the official launch of the brand and their Web site that's due out at the end of January. Chad Ring fired out this monster overgrind during that time and it has since become one of my favorites photos I took this year. Not only because it's the biggest overgrind I've witnessed, but also because I think Chad's one of the most talented up and coming riders out there these days. Many aren't too familiar with the name yet, but by the end of 2011, I guarantee you will be.
Cody YorkRyan Howard, x-grind on the infamous Central-Howard rail in Akron, Ohio.Ryan Howard (X-up grind on the infamous Central-Howard rail in Akron, Ohio) This kid absolutely destroys it! I met Ryan Howard a few years ago, I always thought he was good but I never knew he was such an animal on street. Throughout the end of the summer, I met up with the Act Like You Know crew, on several occasions to shoot photos while they wrapped up filming for their next video called, "Still Here.". Ryan has a full-length section coming out in the video and from what I've witnessed and heard, his part is going to be epic and ground breaking. This X-up grind is just the start of what Howard threw down that day on this infamous rail in Akron, Ohio. His "go for broke" attitude, and unique choices in tricks is what makes this my number two favorite photo I shot in 2010. That along with a great exposure and a dialed composition really took it over the top and made it one of my favorites.
Cody YorkScott Powell, rocket g-turn at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio.Scott Powell (Backwards back peg G-turn at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio) During the entire summer of 2010, I spent a majority of my time shooting with pro flatlander Scott Powell, for a full-feature interview that's coming out in BMX Plus! Magazine. To make the interview as exciting and fun as possible, we decided to shoot all the photos in as many unique and original places, as we could get access to. One of those places happened to be inside the Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio. I don't know how we managed to pull that one off, but we did. I've only dreamt before about being able to shoot in such a unique environment like this. That's why this wild back peg G-turn, is hands down my favorite photo I took in 2010. Best of all, this is just one of the many rad shots we took inside the park too. To see the rest, please check out the March issue of BMX Plus!
