Cody YorkDavid Grant on a recent filming mission for Operativ Apparel.David Grant is part of the new breed of very tall street riders that can hop an entire picnic table easier than most of us can hop up a curb. On a recent photo for Operativ Clothing, David's new clothing sponsor, we sat down to discuss his summer happenings so far, sponsor changes, favorite riders and more. This is Muncie's finest icepick grinder.
ESPN.com: Where are you at the moment, how's it going?
Grant: Muncie, Ind. Leaving for Portland, Ore. tomorrow morning. Being back home has been good, riding the local plaza everyday and just having a lazy summer. I'm ready to get out though.
You've been going through a lot of sponsor changes this year. At the beginning of the year, you got picked up by Operativ, then parted ways with Stranger and Lotek and more recently, started riding for Sputnic and Sun Ringle. How's that all going with your new sponsors?
Everything is going good man, the bike is super dialed and some trips are coming up, so I can't complain at all.
Cody York360 gap at the local park. You're from a small college town in Muncie, Indiana, do you enjoy living in the Midwest or would you prefer to be living somewhere else?
I'd like to be elsewhere, it'll happen.
You're pretty well-rounded when it comes to trick variations on street, do spend much time focusing in on learning a new trick until you get it or do you just ride and let new tricks come naturally?
Some stuff just happens over time I feel like. You kind of build on tricks and just figure tricks out by doing other stuff like it. It always helps putting in a few days on one thing though. I feel like I kind of get burnt out on riding though if I keep trying stuff on repeat.
Cody YorkDavid is a seasoned Derek Duster grinder, but this is more of a hybrid crankarm/bottom bracket slide.Who do you think is the most amazing rider in BMX right now?
Craig Passero, the hands down man.
You do quite a bit of filming behind the lens, what are you working on at the moment? Who's your favorite videographer?
I mostly just film the homies and stuff around here, random projects. Whenever another angle is needed on trips and stuff I'm always down to try and help get that other angle. Got to go with Tony Malouf for the favorite filmer.
If you weren't riding BMX, what would you be doing?
I would still be putting a lot of time into traveling.
Any last words?
I love you mom and shout out to my set, Albe's, Coalition, the Gully, Sputnic, Dub, Operativ and Sun Ringle'.
Cody YorkYou know the low seat thing has gone too far when riders resort to sitting on their back tires.
