Jared SouneyRyan Barrett, at work and at play in Portland, Ore. Launch Gallery »
In the early '90s, Ryan Barrett honed his trail riding skills in North Carolina alongside Chris Doyle, and the two of them found their way to pro rider status, traveling to contests and taking countless road trips over the years. A few years ago, after a string of significant injuries and down time, Barrett began to focus his energy less on the full-time pro bike rider dream, and more on his future career path. Now living in Portland, Ore., Barrett continues to find time on the side to shred original lines at all the concrete parks and trails in the area. He's achieved an almost mythical status in these parts. There are rumors of big moves and lines he's done at just about every park in Portland. He might not be hitting up the contest scene or shooting photos and video as much as he used to, but that doesn't mean he's not shredding.
Several years back, when long-time friends Steve Buddendeck and Cory Muth launched their new bike brand Verde, Ryan got on board giving his feedback on products and team riders. He continues to have a close relationship with the brand, and his latest ride is a Verde frame with Duo components. Today, no longer living the sponsored lifestyle, Barrett works as an Account Manager at Nemo Design, a Portland-based creative agency, where he's surrounded by minds like legendary snowboard photographer Trevor Graves, and former Freestylin' Magazine Editor Mark "Lew" Lewman.
A couple months ago Ryan's bike got stolen out of his garage. Thanks to some help from his friends at Greenhouse, Fit, Profile, River City Cycles and Goods BMX, Ryan's back in action on a new bike, a customized Verde Yeagle.
