Since we first reported on the current state of the 71N Trails in Casselberry, Fla. earlier this month, there have unfortunately been no further updates, developments or breakthroughs on the story. To bring you up to speed in case you missed the story, the trails are in danger of being plowed by the City of Casselberry because of city code violations that include the encroachment into the 100-year floodplain and the lack of erosion controls in the area, which could become a disruption to the nearby wetlands and lake habitat.

Basically, because of the sandy soil in the area, the locals have been buying truckloads of clay, which they have used extensively to expand the trails over the past decade. According to the City of Casselberry, "Dirt fill cannot be brought into a floodplain without a permit."

The locals are hoping to work with the city to find a viable solution that does not violate city code and allows for the trails to remain. And the support behind the trails continues to grow. Currently, the online petition in support of the trails boasts just under two thousand signatures, and the daily sessions continue to commence. With help from 71N local Mike Cottle, we were able to document some of the most recent riding at 71N, along with some riding from earlier this year, filmed and edited by visiting photographer Keith Terra.
