The new additions to the team will be partnerning with Willers' main sponsor BOX Components to innovate and develop new BMX parts for the future. BOX reportedly has a slew of new product in the works, while DK is prototyping 20mm dropouts and magnesium frames.
"I've loved DK since I bought [Robbie] Miranda's old frame in an auction back in New Zealand about 11 or 12 years back. They are really pushing the industry again and have the same outlook as BOX Components. Both companies are looking to develop the sport and equipment beyond today's level," said Willers about the move.
After a phenomenal year, it's slightly surprising to see Marc Willers changing sponsors. At the end of the 2011 season, with the ABA #1 Pro title in hand, Willers decided to leave Speed Bicycles/VSI and head on over to BOX Components as their main rider. BOX describes themselves as the "Lamborghini of BMX parts," and since Willers is fast, the pairing made sense. Currently BOX is prototyping seat post clamps, brake levers and rims, but is a sure bet that they have more up their sleeves.
Nobles is coming off a solid year riding with SE Bicycles. In an interview regarding his new sponsorship with DK, Nobles said "Riding for DK is like a childhood dream for me. [Robbie] Miranda was one of the guys that I probably looked up to the most."
Both Willers and Nobles are setting their sights on the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Willers has settled in to be New Zealand's main rider while Nobles, an underdog, is fighting for one of the three spots on Team USA. Both riders currently reside in Murietta, Calif. There is no word yet on whether or not Willers and Nobles will be jumping the DK Bicycles trailer at the next national event in Oldsmar, Fla., but we sure hope so.
