Animal BikesJared Washington, mere feet away from the building where I had Intro to Music Theory in 1996.Last Friday, Jared Washington premiered his latest Web video for sponsor Federal Bikes. Featuring friend and riding partner Dominic Biro, the video has been viewed over 20k times in just over two days. While most web videos are here today, gone tomorrow, I decided to hit up Jared about his "return" to web videos, the finer points about producing the latest video, and what in the world he was doing in the town I originally grew up in. Here's Jared.
ESPN.com: How in the world did you guys find the flat bar at the Matawan Train Station?
Washington: I probably rode it for the first time like eight years ago. It's such a good spot and everyone kind of just forgot about it. It's a "Gollup spot."
How often do you you mess with Dom and tell him you didn't press record while filming?
Never, that wasn't me. It was pretty funny though. I've definitely filmed him and messed up the footage for real though, haha.
The playground next to the skatepark in Jersey City. Is that your first hippopotamus ride to barspin 180?
It was a whale actually. I actually shot a photo with Andrew White doing that 180 bar before I got hurt but didn't film it. So I had to go back and do it again. It's not as fun to ride as it looks. I hate that whale.

How do you manage to avoid what could be some of the worst crashes in riding, and smile about it?
You've got to smile when you get out of something really bad. I think over the years I've gotten a little better at riding but I've gotten way better at bailing.
Can you describe what riding with Dominic Biro is like?
It usually doesn't take him too long to pull what he's trying and he could probably film a video part every week if he wanted to -- the omelet opposite of me. We kind of push each other to try things though so it's good to ride with someone like that.
What's your favorite clip of this video and why?
That's tough. It's probably the rail line with the double peg and the icepick. That was my first clip I filmed after messing up my ankle and not riding for a while. That's the reason why I did a split edit to begin with. When I started the edit, I messed up my ankle pretty bad and knew I wouldn't be able to get as many clips as I'd like in time so I asked Dom to help out. I think it worked out for the better. So it's either that clip just because I was happy to be back on my bike or the nollie bar to manual on the roof because I got the idea in a dream.
Finally, what now? A 19" top tube version of your signature frame?
I'm sure Dominic can make you a 19" version if you want one. What's next is filming for the Animal video and more Web videos. I'm going to try to clock in a lot of footage this year and put out new stuff as much as possible. Also want to thank Ryan Navazio for doing what he does best. I give him credit for filming all the best filmed clips in that edit, haha.
