On November 14th, Jeff "Ox" Kargola was pre-running the Baja 1000 course near San Felipe, Mexico when he swapped out and suffered a major crash. I talked to Metal Mulisha teammate, friend and AFMXA board member Ryan Hagy yesterday and he filled me in on the details of the crash from Ox's point of view.

Ryan HagyOx fights through the pain at Scripps Mercy in San Diego, California. Thanks to the AFMXA, he was able to get transferred to the US to get proper treatment.
According to Hagy, Ox was ripping about 60mph down a whooped out straightaway, when his back wheel hit a decent sized rock after his front tire wheelied over it. Obviously it was a big blur from there, but Ox (who was alone at the time) suffered a major concussion and some non-fatal, but drastic internal and external gashing. Somehow Ox was able to re-mount his bike and head back toward the town of San Felipe, but along the way he got dizzy and laid his bike and himself in the middle of a highway. Luckily some caring passerby's saw Ox and quickly rushed him to the closest clinic.

As of now, Ox is doing just fine at Scripps Mercy in San Diego, and he's expected to make a full recovery, but here's the crazy part ... Ox signed up for an AFMXA membership AFMXA two days before he took off to Mexico. Even though the AFMXA is still a new organization, they followed through on their end and sent a Medjet to bring him back to the states for proper treatment. If Ox wouldn't have signed up with the AFMXA, this would've cost somewhere between $40-$60k. How insane is that? It's rad to see everything work out as planned.

Now, even though Ox's Medjet flight was covered by the AFMXA, his surgeries are unfortunately not. So, to further help Ox recover from this gnarly crash, the AFMXA and Lusk Legacy Foundation is taking donations so that he can focus on healing and not his diminishing bank account.
