AFMXA Awards Winners
The first-ever AFMXA Awards were an absolute success

Neither Nixey Danielson (left) or Kyle Loza won an award, but hot damn the gots some ill steeze.
Do you understand what I just witnessed? I don't think you'll understand the gauge of the situation, but let's give it a shot. So, the first-ever
AFMXA Awards kicked off in a rad theatre-type room at the Pala Casino in Southern California. Kicking off the awards show was
Todd Potter and the dude from the Daily Habit on Fuel. I should probably know his name, but I don't watch Fuel ... I'm to gangster for cable. Anyway, after Potter and the dude kicked it off, the lights went dim and Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" beat started shaking the place. Next thing you know,
Ronnie Faisst and
Nate Adams hop on stage and straight wreck their own version of Ice's song, titled "Ride Twice Daily." It was seriously the dopest thing I've ever seen and the song was absolutely CLASSIC! They had to have spent days writing the rhymes. If they made a video for it and put it on YouTube, they'd for sure become overnight viral sensations.
So obviously that was a hard act to follow, but the awards show went off without hitch and the vibe was just right. This is the first year FMX riders have been awarded for their achievements, but believe me, it won't be the last. This is just the beginning of the future of the sport the AFMXA is the best thing to ever happen to FMX. One of the cooler things of the night came via Lance Coury. Lance was awarded a $1,000 check for his win in the Pro Am class earlier in the day, but he donated the loot, giving back to the AFMXA. Pretty cool, huh?

Love and Hate
An inside look at what keeps the riders going.

With everything positive there is a negative. Sort of a Yin and Yang right? I mean being a rock star would be awesome, but being on the road all the time would suck. With FMX it's not much different. These guys are living the dream, but there is almost always a downside to every up. We asked a few riders what their favorite and not so favorite things were about freestyle motocross was and this is what they had to say.

Another jaw dropper from the Fitzland compound
November 6, 2009, 1:24 AM
By: Cliff Talley
Random trips to Jimmy Fitzpatrick's compound "Fitzland" always seem to produce jaw dropping video. On a routine visit the other day, I was able to snatch up this quick little segment. Jimmy set up freeride legend Seth Enslow's distance ramp to show us what it looks like to hit a jump as fast as your motorcycle will go. Check out Fitz, Wiley Fulmer and Taka Higashino huck themselves silly.
AFMXA Rider Roll Call
Meet the crew of amateur riders that will be competing in AFMXA's first Am competition this Saturday in Pala, California.

The first-ever AFMXA Amateur Competition will be going down in three days, but until now, the invited rider list has been under wraps. I was able to get my hands on a list of confirmed and non-confirmed amateur riders, so I sent out an email to get their basic stats and info. I can't guarantee that all the riders below will be competing, nor can I guarantee that I got everyone's info that will be in attendance, but at least this gives you a good idea of who will be making up the majority of the field. It should be a VERY interesting event. Are you excited? I bet you are, but not as much as these guys!

FMX Goals: To hopefully land a backflip. I can flip pretty much everything, besides a big bike.
Random Personal Fact: In the past three weeks I've taken up unicycling. It's way harder than it looks! I also like shredding RC cars (when they're not broken), and I'm a local at Del Taco.

Paris Rosen's 88' front flip
We've been waiting for proof of Paris Rosen's 88-foot front flip, and it's finally here.
November 5, 2009, 5:06 PM
By: Ryan Leyba
Late last week, Minnesota's Paris Rosen successfully hushed his haters and pulled the monkey off his back when he rode away from an 88-foot ramp-to-dirt front flip -- the biggest in the game. Until now, the biggest on record was that of Frenchman Charles Pagès, which was a 66-footer, executed in May 2009.
Earlier this year, Rosen went to X Games 15 on a quest to land the coveted long-distance front flip, but because of a slight under-rotation, his attempt was unsuccessful. Being the fighter that he is, Rosen proved that he has what it takes to nail the front flip, throwing it at an impressive 88 feet in the Arizona desert on Oct. 30. Rumors of the flip have been surfacing on message boards and FMX Web sites across the world, but after a lot of hunting and digging, we were able to get our hands on the video of the flip and the madness that ensued thereafter. Check it out, rewind, check it out and repeat until you grasp the gnar-ness of the trick.
Congrats, Paris!
Stay tuned to ESPN.com/action, as we'll be linking up with Rosen this weekend to get the details on his historic achievement. And with all the front-flip frenzy going on, you may want to check out some related stories and videos:

Lance Coury throws it sideways at his home practice facility ... the Red Bull Compound.
Since last week, we've had a poll running on our FMX homepage asking the public who they'd like to see interviewed on ESPN FMX next. Out of
Nixey Danielson,
Jim McNeil,
Jacko Strong and
Destin Cantrell, it was
Lance Coury who won by a landslide. So, as promised, here's our interview with the young SoCal ripper. Enjoy.

Twitch and Maddo sesh for TransWorld Motocross photo/video shoot
November 4, 2009, 7:14 PM
By: Ryan Leyba
I was talking to TransWorld Motocross Editor-in-Chief Donn Maeda yesterday and he mentioned that he was planning to shoot with Jeremy "Twitch" Stenberg and Robbie "Maddo" Maddison at the Metal Mulisha Compound today (Wednesday, November 4). I'm always pumped to see new footage and photos of Twitch, but what made this session different from the rest is that Twitch was aboard his big 450 four-stroke. (Click enlarge for a larger view of the photo)
A while back Twitch mentioned that he'd be making a perminent switch to the 450, but he had to wait for the 2009 season to end so he could start fresh. So, for 2010, expect to see Twitch aboard Yamaha's new 2010 YZ450F the very same insane looking bike that James Stewart's been waxing everyone with lately. Man, I can't wait to see one of those things freestyled out!
To see video of today's ride sesh, check out TransWorld's website. I'm told the vid should be up later tonight. Oh ... and go Yankees!

Being Robbie Maddison drops Nov. 15!
November 4, 2009, 3:53 PM
By: Micah Abrams
The next installment of the ESPN.com/Action's "Being" franchise focuses on the life and times of FMX's most innovative stunt junky, Robbie Maddison. The 28-year-old Australian has been called a lot of things, but the most flattering is perhaps the least accurate. Calling Maddison "The Next Evel Knievel" underestimates the stunts he's accomplished and disregards his recent ascension to the top of the competitive freestyle circuit. Maddison is a Knievel-level badass, sure. He's also an FMX visionary with the skills and the guts to back it up.
Being Robbie Maddison will explore his roots as a teen racing prodigy and his transition to Australia's most talked about freestyle rider. It will examine the distance records and the infamous New Years Arc De Triomph jump that made him a household name. It will detail his rise from middle-of-the-pack competitor to aspiring champion. And it will take a long look at the difference between what it takes to be the next Evel Knievel ... and what it takes to be Robbie Maddison.
Being Robbie Maddison drops on ESPN.com/Action next Sunday, November 15.
