Hart's near-landing of a double back at the 2000 Gravity Games made him famous, but the accomplishment was overshadowed by his next attempt at X Games 6 and not in a good way. Bailing at the apex of the jump, Hart fell 35 feet to the dirt and broke 15 bones in his foot, his tail bone, and three ribs in a crash that rivals Jake Browns for sheer horror. By X Games 7, Mike Metzger had progressed the flip to include a no-handed landing, but Hart nevertheless entered Best Trick seeking to finish what he started. He did more than that, missing Metzger's gold by a mere 33 tenths of a point. "I got this monkey off my back," said Hart afterward, "but I think I'm done with backflips."
