What's Up with the Pros?

Text messaging is a wonderful invention

I'm not sure if you can tell, but things are a bit slow around here lately. I was IM chatting with Lance Coury this morning and he said something to the tune of "The website is in it's worst form yet! I always check the site first thing in the morning for news and today there was nothing!" — or something like that. Obviously that's not something that I want to hear and even though the sport is in it's off-season, I realized that I needed to dive in headfirst and find out what the heck is going on in FMX.

I figured that the best way to find out what's going on in FMX is to hit up the riders themselves, so I sent a text to every single rider in my phone's address book. Some riders got back to me and some didn't. Some had long answers and some barely wrote a thing. Here's the question I sent out:

Since not too much is going on in FMX, I thought I'd text everyone and ask... What's up bra?

Alli

This past weekend the second stop of Dew Tour went down in Salt Lake City and as always, FMX was a crowd favorite. Unfortunately, Alli Sports decided that it's best as demo instead a full-blown contest. Here Ronnie Faisst busts big in the city of salt.

Matt Buyten: I don't have too much going on. I just got off the Burnett tour and I've gotta move my mom to Oklahoma. I don't have any shows at all so I'm going to chill, go to the US Open of Supercross and then head down to Cali to ride.

Derek Garland: I've been motoing my 450 and still practicing freestyle trying to learn new tricks in the off-season. I'm also in the process of buying my first house out in Temecula, so I'm excited about that.

Kyle Loza: Since X Games, I've realized that becoming a father is easy, but being a father is harder than untangling tangled Christmas tree lights. You can tell a lot about a person by how they deal with rainy days, lost luggage and tangled Christmas tree lights...

Nate Adams: I'm getting ready to fly off to France for a demo for DC Shoes. Gotta keep them sponsors happy! I'm just riding leisurely — this is sorta my off-season, if you can call it that! So, I'm kinda riding one or two times a week and just chillin'. Getting the batteries recharged and a little motivation for 2010. I just finished a track for the new TransWorld MX vid Kickstart. Personally, I'm very excited because I think it's my best hip hop work yet. So that's basically it! Getting my 2010 deals lined up, hip hoppin', riding for fun, eating what I want when I want and however much I want! Haha& and of course I'm busy all day, every day.

Logan Darien: I just finished up a Deft meeting and now it's back to the computer... point and click son! Haha, FMX is that slow, huh?

Derek Burlew: I'm on my way to Dr. Robs office to get x rays... for my girlfriend though. She weeded her knee. It's ridiculously swollen and black& looks gnarly! It's going to be rad walking in and out of there healthy for once.

Adam Jones: Well Leyba, I just left the gym, so I'm sweating like a hungover race horse and probably won't be able to function within the hour. If I can recover, I'm gonna practice a few songs on the guitar box so I can shred with Mason and Bubbs tomorrow at band practice!

Destin Cantrell: Nothing much man. I'm just pumped on finding out that I was nominated for the TransWorld rookie FMX rider of the year. And I'm also getting ready to ride.

Ronnie Faisst: After X Games I took some time off to let my back and knee fully heal. Then I made some changes to my bike and started riding and training again. I rode both Portland and Salt Lake City stops on the Dew Tour. I've also been working with the AFMXA. This association is doing a lot of great things for our sport. We are putting together a contest on November 7th at Pala Raceway and also the first-ever freestyle awards show the same night at Pala Casino. I've also started RFMX Ronnie Faisst motocross schools. Rockstar is going to sponsor the school and most of them will be out at Starwest MX park. Check out rfmxschools.com! And I've also been reading some good books and staying connected at my church, reading the Word of God. Life is good! Been really blessed!

Tyler King: I've been working hard on getting actionsportsmag.com moving forward into publication. I've been in meeting after meeting lately, but I'm getting much closer at making it a reality.

Mike Mason: What's up is that I'm going golfing, then I'm gonna play some guitar, then come up with more naked Facebook pictures. I might even head down south and moto with Renner, Myles and all the other So Cal dudes!

Tim O'Brien: I've become an expert at the middleman position. It's pretty cool though. Working with Monster Energy and Ryan Capes has enabled myself and LivFast to put on a show I only used to dream about. But the best part is being able to showcase the team in my hometown, Reno!

Steve Haughelstine: Well, I'm trying to finish up my next movie The Elements and I've been riding like three or so times a week. Keith Sayers and Heath Frisby are on set with the Nitro Circus guys right now. I think that FMX will pick up back soon... It's just a little feeling that I have. ;-)

Chuck Carothers: I'm waiting for my physical therapy to start. The therapist is late to work! Haha.

Drake McElroy: I'm playing bop-it with the kids and waiting for breakfast.

Keith Sayers: Steve Haughelsine and myself finished up racetrack. The freestyle course is done along with the Supercross track. Last week I was in the foam pit learning some new flip tricks.

Doug Parsons: Not to much going on. I'm just getting settled back in Bro Cal and planning a big film shoot in the fall. I'm looking for some new sponsors to freeride, build, create media content of the winter season.

Dan Pastor: I finally got my bike back from a demo I did in Dominican Republic. It's been over two months and I'm going riding! I was pissed, but now I'm just happy to have it back.

Jeff Tilton: The TNT Red Bull demo program is in full swing. I've been riding tons of motos at the local track, Barona Oaks. Riding dirt bikes is the best. Cheers.

Niki Danielson: Leybatron! I've just been chillin' at the Holiday Inn!
