PHOENIX -- Ryan Dungey won the Monster Energy AMA Supercross race Saturday night at Chase Field, holding off Jake Weimer and defending series champion Ryan Villopoto.

Dungey, the KTM rider from Belle Plaine, Minn., got his first victory of the year with a strong effort as he led from the start. He finished third behind Villopoto last week in the season opener in Anaheim, Calif. Villopoto was third Saturday night, finishing behind Jake Weimer.

"This was a big step in right direction for KTM," Dungey said after winning by more than 6 seconds. "They've been behind me the whole way and believed in me. ... I got off to a great start and (moved) into the lead early, which made it nice on myself."

Dean Wilson, of Menifee, Calif., won the Supercross Lites race with a similarly dominant performance. Marvin Musquin finished second, while Tyla Rattray was third and moved into the Western Regional Lites points lead.

"This feels great," Wilson said. "It just means so much to get this win. The track was really slippery and required a lot of throttle control. This class is unbelievable and it's not going to be easy (to win), but I want to be in the championship and I'm going to try my best."
