• Mammoth Mountain opens for the season Friday, Oct. 16. Mammoth's opener is also free—if that's the sort of thing that interests you.
• And decorated U.S. Ski Team racer Julia Mancuso has announced by way of the Euro-based website of the Freeride World Tour that she will be competing on Squaw Valley's Tram Face during the lone FWT event in the States the week of Feb. 27.
