It has been five years since the last time a skier filmed a trick off of Utah's infamous Chad's Gap. Why? Partly, it is because skiers ended up rather chastened by what happened the last time somebody did Tanner Hall broke both ankles on it in 2005.
And those who weren't afraid of the punishment were at least sure that they wouldn't top the switch 900 that Tanner bagged before the jump got the best of him.

Brand New Chad's Gap Photos from Steve Rozendaal »
Until now. Earlier this month, Tim Durtschi, the young man who landed a double rodeo 900 on nearby Pyramid Gap last spring, broke the seal back off of Chad's. And Steve Rozendaal was there to build it, film it, and relay these thoughts:
I have been very lucky over my ten years of filming skiing to be at every major Chad's gap session. From filming Chad clearing it with my one chip digital camera to capturing Tim Durtschi on HD it has been amazing to watch. What is this new trick that Chad's Gap gave up? Hard saying not knowing. But what I can say is that some other Alta-area hikers witnessed a kangaroo flip attempt from across the way. From the sound of their reaction, that might be the "punishment" that Steve referred to above. Or maybe that was just the warm-up.This latest build was one of the hardest. Including a scouting day, I spent over 70 hours at Chad's over the course of 9 days. In that time, my friend CR Johnson passed away, we had constant bad weather, and with the five year reunion of Tanners crash on my mind I constantly questioned whether I should even be building it. There is nothing a filmer hates more then seeing one of his friends hurt, and as you will see (eventually) The most famous gap in the world did give up a new trick, but it also dished out some punishment.
