[Ed note: Seth's been exploring a range of mountains outside Petersburg, Alaska, for the better part of the last month. He's there with TGR, who are shooting for their new feature, "Light The Wick," but the TGR crew's roots in this area go back to their very beginnings: the company was founded with cash the boys made doing commercial fishing around these parts. While they've struggled with the usual weather issues, this is the first time in a long time that Seth's been able to lay first tracks on an AK peak. Needless to say, he's enjoyed it. Be sure to check out the gallery from earlier in the trip for more an his adventure.]
After a few weeks of more weather days to skiing days, we find ourselves coming to a close on the trip. Mother Nature has been in charge and always will be. Wally, the pilot who runs the hanger here, put it best after living here for over 13 years: "I'm not the same man I was when I first came here." This is very true of all the trips I have ever been on. Experiences coupled with being in a new place seem to accelerated that transformation in all of us.

Clear days have delivered the goods, but it's never easy. Wind started blowing and made the game plan change. Wind makes for tight heli landings, so it can get dangerous. That's part of it though -- doing what you can when you can. After some days of wind and sun we found ourselves hoping for weather to reset the zone. It's crazy to say, especially after all the weather days we sat through. Getting rest is good for the body but bad on the mind.

From the locals who climb the mountains out there to those that spend their time on dry land, everyone says this is a low tide season. Makes you wonder what it would be like on a normal season! Would the crevices be covered, allowing the spine lines to death be a go? Or would many of the spines just be gone completely?

You'll never know what to expect when you're exploring new terrain. Uncertainty and the hopes of perfect conditions are a daily affair. Our limits have been tested and pushed into another level of teamwork. That's why we love it, and that's why we will leave here different men. Thanks to everyone in the crew, and be sure to check out TGR's "Light The Wick" this fall or their site to see what has happened. I'll let the photo's tell more of the story.
