Chopo Diaz and Angel Collinson took the top spots at the North Face Argentinean Freeskiing Championships in Las Leñas on Friday.

Now it's Sunday, and I've been in the car for some 11 hours. We started the day in Las Leñas, Argentina, and now we're careening up the 40 switchbacks between Santiago and Farellones, Chile. I am extremely carsick. But I feel so compelled to tell this story while still in the car, despite the nausea, because its occupants pulled off a clean sweep of the podium at stop two of the Freeskiing World Tour.

Next to me in the back seat of this Subaru is Soledad Diaz, who took third place for the women. Lars Chickering Ayers and Chopo Diaz are up front, having finished second and first, respectively. I took third, and got the Sickbird award, given to the athlete with the most decorated line.

Also in the car with us is $200 worth of meat and beverages that we just picked up for an asado to be held tomorrow. If we had all of our ski equipment with us, there's no way we could have fit all of these groceries in the car. Perhaps it's a good thing, then, that none of the gear we sent along in the Freeskiing World Tour truck made it across the Argentinean border from last weekend's competition at El Colorado, Chile.

I had my own skis in Las Leñas, but that was it. To get on the podium, I used rental boots, poles and helmet, and borrowed pants, gloves and goggles. Chopo was working with the same lack of gear and it didn't stop him from winning the event. Lars only had his boots, and managed his impressive run on someone else's skis. Soledad was the only one in our car with her own gear.

Also on the women´s podium was Crystal Wright from Jackson Hole, in second place, and last year's overall Freeskiing World Tour champion and current world tour leader, Angel Collinson from Snowbird, Utah.

Despite low snow in Las Leñas and an overall lack of equipment, it was still an amazing event. The ski area is surrounded by enormous mountains, and has long been a destination for freeskiers from around the globe. In years to come I hope this event continues and gains the classic status it deserves.

Signing off now because I think I'm going to vomit.
