As ski companies evolve their product lines, companies are now more than ever turning to their collective team of sponsored skiers to help develop, test and produce new technology in skiing. From Eric Eric Hjorleifson handmaking skis for 4frnt, to Glen Plake designing Dalbello boots, to the entire Salomon team helping develop the new Salomon Guardian 16 backcountry binding, athlete built products are the new rage.

For the 11th episode of Salomon Freeski TV, Elyse Saugstad, Kim Havell and Chris Rubens take Salomon's newest touring binding on a grueling (read: jealousy inducing) trip into the hut system of British Columbia. Of course the intentions of the trip might have been directed as a testing mission, but Elyse Saugstad said, "After a few days of touring, skiing and realizing the binding was working perfectly, we kind of forgot about testing and just focused on skiing from sunup to sundown."

From that description, it sounds like the new job requirements of professional skiers hasn't been too taxing of a burden yet.
