Stickers for Sarah
Sarah Burke sticker sales help raise more than $15,000 for memorial fund
After Sarah Burke passed away, we decided to sell stickers to raise money for a fund set up in Sarah's memory. Initially, our goal was to raise $5,000, but quickly we reached that goal and realized that we needed to enlist the help of friends to keep the project going. As of today, we have raised a little more than $15,000 for Sarah. We've mailed more than 3,000 stickers to over 16 different countries all over the world.
Sarah was my hero growing up. Her poster hung on my wall and showed me that I could potentially be a female professional skier some day. I can't think of a better role model than her. Her humble smile, passion, and poise were attributes that I one day hoped to acquire. By initiating this fundraiser, I wanted to give back to Sarah a little bit of what she gave to all of us. It's incredible to see how many people Sarah has touched.
A year ago in January, I sat with my boyfriend Danny Toumarkine in the hospital for 33 days after he suffered a traumatic brain injury. The outpouring of support that we experienced during that time was extraordinary. The support helped guide us through Danny's injury and later, his recovery. I was with Danny when we found out about Sarah's passing and we both decided that we wanted to help in any way we could.
This fundraiser wouldn't have been possible without the help of my friends. Their eagerness to facilitate stemmed from all of us going through such a similar experience with Danny. I would like to thank Shreddy Times for setting up the online store and Sticker Pack for generously donating all of the stickers for this fundraiser. Most importantly, I want to thank all of you who have charitably purchased stickers and donated funds for Sarah. Keep chasing your dreams and skiing for Sarah.
