Josh Dueck appears on Ellen show
The first sit skier to throw a backflip, Josh Dueck is now on morning television

Earlier this month, Josh Dueck landed the first backflip on a sit ski. The YouTube video of his backflip reached half a million views, and on Wednesday morning, 31-year-old Dueck appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show in Burbank, Calif.

In 2004, Dueck was paralyzed while skiing at his home mountain of Silver Star, British Columbia. Since the accident, Dueck has gone on to win multiple Paralympic medals, star in "Freedom Chair," an award-winning documentary about taking his sit ski to the backcountry, and won Winter X Games Mono Skier X. Among topics discussed with Ellen were Dueck's accident, the impact it had on his life, and, of course, his backflip.
"I had no real expectations for the show," Dueck told ESPN. "It was just so surreal that I got the call to be there. The producers went over how things would go and a few questions that Ellen would ask and then I was on, but Ellen is a wonderful human being with great energy and I felt right at home."
When asked what he is going to enjoy the most about being home in Vernon, B.C., after the whirlwind of media he has experienced lately, Dueck responded with a long list of plans.
"A few World Cup races, some pow turns at a new catskiing operation back home, and then Alaska for a week to explore some big mountain options," he said. "I just want to go home and absorb all of this, but I've missed a few days of training, so I'll hit the ground running as soon as I get there."
