Portland skate spot to be destroyed
The infamous 'Pirate Town' skate spot in Portland, OR. will be destroyed. The University of Portland will build new athletic falicilities in cleanup efforts.
Triangle Park is a 35-acre site located at 5828 North Van Houton Place, between the University of Portland and McCormick and Baxter. The site is located on the Willamette River between river mile 7 and 8 within the Portland Harbor Superfund Site. A variety of industrial uses since the early 1900's left multiple contaminants in the soil and groundwater. The site has been idle since Triangle Park LLC acquired it in 1997. DEQ began site cleanup efforts in the late 1980's.
The University of Portland is purchasing the Triangle Park property so that it can relocate and develop athletic facilities on the Triangle Park property, freeing up it's existing land on the bluff for buildings. The University plans to also develop a riverfront trail with public access.
